Follow this step-by-step guide to install and configure GenBay. The interactive web installation wizard works identically for both local development workspaces (localhost) and production web hosting servers.
Step-by-Step Installation Process
Step 1: Upload & Extract Files
- After purchasing and downloading GenBay from CodeCanyon, locate the
installable.zipfile inside your downloaded package. - Upload
installable.zipto your target directory:- Production Server (cPanel): Upload to
public_htmlor your domain's document root. - Localhost: Place in your local web directory (e.g.
www/for Laragon/Herd orhtdocs/for XAMPP).
- Production Server (cPanel): Upload to
- Extract the zip archive completely.
- Open your web browser and navigate to your website's URL (e.g.,
https://yourdomain.com). - You will automatically be redirected to the web installer Welcome screen (
/install).
Step 2: Welcome & Requirements Verification
- On the Welcome page of the installation wizard, click Check Requirements.
- The installer will inspect your server environment against all required PHP version rules and required PHP extensions.
- Verify that all requirements show a green checkmark.

- Once all requirements are verified, click Continue to Permissions.
Step 3: Directory Permissions Verification
- The installer will check write access for the core application storage and cache directories:
storage/app/storage/framework/storage/logs/bootstrap/cache/
- Ensure that each directory displays a green Writable status.

- Once all permissions are verified, click Continue to License Setup.
Step 4: License Verification
Verify your product purchase license to activate your marketplace installation:
- Email Address: Enter your geniusdevs.com user account email address (the registered email address associated with your GeniusDevs account).
- GeniusDevs License Key: Enter your unique license key / purchase code (provided in your GeniusDevs customer dashboard or CodeCanyon purchase receipt).
- Active Internet Connection: Ensure your web server has an active internet connection to communicate with the GeniusDevs central verification server.

- Click Verify License.
Important: GeniusDevs licenses follow a single-domain policy. Each license key is valid for one live domain installation only. If you need to transfer your license to a new domain, contact customer support for authorization.
- Once verification is successful, the installer automatically advances to Step 5: Environment Setup & Database Installation.
Step 5: Environment Setup & Database Installation
On the Environment Setup page, configure your application details, database connection, and custom administrator credentials:

- Application Settings:
- App Name: Enter your marketplace name (e.g.,
GenBay Auctions). - App URL: Enter your full URL including protocol (e.g.,
https://yourdomain.com).
- App Name: Enter your marketplace name (e.g.,
- Database Connection:
- Database Host: Usually
127.0.0.1orlocalhost. - Database Port: Standard MySQL port
3306. - Database Name: The name of your newly created database.
- Database Username: Database user (e.g.,
rooton localhost or your cPanel DB user). - Database Password: Password for the database user.
- Database Host: Usually
- Administrator Credentials:
- Set your custom Admin Email and Admin Password (these fields are required and will be used to access the admin panel immediately after installation).
- Click Test Database Connection to confirm connectivity.
- Once the test succeeds, click Save & Install. The installer will write your
.envfile, run database migrations, seed default records, create your administrator account, and finalize setup.
Step 6: Dashboard Login & Security Setup
Upon successful completion, you will redirect to the site home screen:

Click the Admin Dashboard button to navigate to the backend login page (/admin).
Administrator Login Credentials:
- Login URL:
https://yourdomain.com/admin- Email: The custom administrator email configured in Step 5.
- Password: The custom administrator password configured in Step 5.
Security Recommendation: You can update your profile credentials and enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) at any time from the Admin Profile page.
Step 7: Background Workers & Scheduler
GenBay relies on automated background tasks to close timed auctions (auction:winner), declare winners, send email notifications, and process queue jobs.
Localhost Setup (Development & Testing)
On localhost, you do not need to configure a system cron service. To run background jobs during testing, execute the following commands in your project terminal:
# Determine auction winners (run to close ended auctions)
php artisan auction:winner
# Start background queue worker to process email templates and jobs
php artisan queue:work
You can also trigger auction processing manually at any time by clicking the Run Cron Job button in the Admin Panel sidebar.
Production Setup — Choose Method A or Method B
Method A: CLI Cron Jobs (VPS / Dedicated Server / SSH Access)
If your server provides SSH access or terminal crontab management, add these two cron entries to your server crontab (crontab -e):
# Auction closer — determines winners for ended auctions every minute
* * * * * cd /path-to-your-project && php artisan auction:winner >> /dev/null 2>&1
# Queue worker — processes emails & background jobs safely, then exits
* * * * * cd /path-to-your-project && php artisan queue:work --stop-when-empty --queue=default,emails --tries=3 >> /dev/null 2>&1
Method B: Web-Based Cron URL (Shared Hosting / cPanel / Plesk)
GenBay features a built-in, token-protected Web Cron URL specifically designed for shared hosting environments where daemon queue workers cannot run continuously.
Your unique cron URL is automatically generated from your application key and is displayed in Admin Panel → General Settings → Basic Settings → Cron Job URL.

https://yourdomain.com/cron/{your-secret-token}
cPanel Cron Setup Steps:
- In your Admin Panel → Basic Settings, copy your Cron Job URL from the bottom of the page.
- Log in to your cPanel dashboard and open Cron Jobs.
- Set the interval to Once Per Five Minutes (
*/5 * * * *) or Once Per Minute (* * * * *). - In the Command field, enter:
Or ifBASH
wget -q -O /dev/null "https://yourdomain.com/cron/{your-secret-token}"wgetis disabled on your server:BASHcurl -s "https://yourdomain.com/cron/{your-secret-token}" > /dev/null 2>&1 - Click Add New Cron Job.
Important for Shared Hosting: Permanent queue daemon processes (
php artisan queue:workwithout--stop-when-empty) are killed by shared hosting process monitors. Method B safely closes ended auctions and drains pending queue items in a single HTTP request.
